January 4th, 2013, is World Hypnotism Day.

What is that?

The purpose of this day is to remove the myths and misconceptions about hypnosis and promote the truth and benefits of it. Unlike what you might have seen in movies or television, hypnosis will not make you do anything you do not want to do and it can be highly beneficial to enhance your life in many areas.

For example, if weight loss is your goal and you are continually tempted by ice cream, if you simply think about not eating ice cream your subconscious will think about what it’s like to have that treat. So ultimately it is tempting you rather than helping you avoid it. Hypnosis has the ability to retrain your subconscious to focus on more desirable food that can take the place of the ice cream and in addition allows you to have a very vivid imaginary experience of being thin, feeling healthy, stopping smoking, and happily reaching the desired goals. Completing a marathon was one of those things on my life list—my bucket list.

Accomplishing this seemed to be the ultimate challenge and that goal was near completion.

What do you want to accomplish in life? Perhaps you may have not thought about or discovered it. I have noted through my career as a hypnotherapist I have helped people meet goals on their bucket list. Note some of them did not know they had these goals till they underwent the hypnosis process.

Some of these inspiring client sessions included a client who pursued art –painting and drawing with a passion. Just a few weeks after the session, she had pieces in an art show. She had never done anything like that in her life.

Another client decided to do a one-woman show. What is inspiring is that she had never acted, performed or written anything like this. Another goal was to do this for her 60th birthday. Mission accomplished.

It is amazing what one can discover about themselves. It is also amazing the blockages and obstacles that hypnosis can help up to overcome.

Be sure to list and think of things that you want to accomplish in life. Call it bucket list or something else—it will add to your joy.

Today is April Fool’s Day. Although intended to be a day of pranks and jokes it is a good day to reflect how you might be fooling yourself in life or your career. Are you an April Fool everyday?

Here are some questions to ponder and things to consider.

Are you simply on autopilot?

How often are you driving somewhere new, yet accidentally turn the wrong way because you usually go to the same and usual places? It’s tough to break out of routines and patterns.  Think about how you can make a change and be creative.  Otherwise, you are always going to wind up in the same place.

Low Energy??

This is familiar terrain to most people. We are tired, busy, overworked, have too much on our minds. It would be surprising if our energy levels were not much lower than necessary for active, productive work and a wonderful and productive personal  life as well.

What can you do?

Change your routine. Get more sleep, exercise. Read a good book. Make time for yourself so you have more energy to give at work. Spark a new interest or renew an old one. Relax. De-stress. Laugh.

Conforming??

Are you sleeping on the job ? Have you given up on making changes? Can you take one problem and think about how you may push for a solution? Is there just one thing that really excites and interests you at work or in your personal life that you can take upon yourself to champion and expand upon?

 What issues can you  solve? What strategy can you pursue that will engage and interest you?

 Complacency??

 Once we start to become accustomed to the way things are, it is difficult to take action that would challenge us and keep things interesting at work and in our life. Shake it up–it does take effort.

So – the question remains—

Are you fooling yourself?

What actions are you willing to take to grab the wheel and drive your own career bus and your own life? Is it time for a change? Maybe the change should involve a job search. On the other hand,  maybe it means re-engaging and re-connecting with your current job, examining your personal life, touching base with friends and reconnecting with family.  

It’s up to you, but nothing happens until you put your life in drive!

Don’t fool yourself.
